This band of hard fighting volunteers and Firemen comprised one of the hardest fighting brigades in the Army of the Potomac. These New Yorkers served in essence from their days with McClellan on the Virginia Peninsula, to the Peach Orchard Salient at Gettysburg, and to Lee’s surrender at Appomattox.
